This is a great WOD the Friday before a  race I think I'll keep this as my routine.

@Klint: Yes, I think you did accidentally delete everything. So now its like I never did those burpee box jumps, which I'm totally cool with. But yeah, this new lay out on the blog is totally confusing in my opinion.

AJ

WOD from 4/20:

30 muscle ups for time
9:52

Both hands have that rip along the wrist. Thank you false grip. Took that pic just for you guys, do whatever you'd like with it! I did them on the wooden rings, which was a change of pace. I got 6 out of the gate, which was a PR, but later on regretted that because it was singles after that. It literally took me all of Saturday and Sunday to recover - shoulders, hips, chest, and back were all sore.

Todays WOD

AMRAP 25 minutes
3 hang power cleans @ 165#
5 hand release push ups
10 walking lunges holding 35# dumbbell each hand
*completion of every 3 rounds = 50 double unders*

I did 15 full rounds, plus the DUs, plus 3 lunges.

@Cycling/running: Do you change shoes when you go from bike to run? Once the X miles are done on the bike, do you immediately go into running, or take a few minutes to stretch and recover... or your third step on the ground/off the bike is a jog?

FARRAR

No workout yesterday or today.  I am getting ROCKED by allergies.  Congestion, sneezing, eyes matted shut, cant sleep, lips tingling....... not healthy.  All this even after taking some drugs.  I have a dr appointment Friday to get this crap figured out.  All that to say, I am in no condition to put any more strain on my body much less do any outside training. I am bummed I have not been able to prepare better for the tri this week, but it is what it is.  Trying to focus on just making it a good time and not focusing on breaking any records.

Never-the-less, I plan on swimming tomorrow if it doesnt feel like I will be sloshing the crap around in my head.

Wicked blisters yall are getting from the rings.

@cycling/running: you do change shoes from your cycling shoes to your running shoes.  Transition between the two is supposed to be pretty quick.  A good athlete will make it in 30 to 45 sec.  But you can take your time and recupporate between events.

@Sun wrkout: so you didnt answer me.... did you get a new bike or what?

@blood flow: I think the main problem is just the saddle on my butt.  Even after all the work I put in to get this saddle.  Need to look into a new one.

KUNKEL
16 or 17 and some change on the bike, total 56 minutes. I think around a 19mph average.
Then ran 2.75 in 21:08, about a 7:41 split.

Didn't get to workout till late, caught up with the McElroy boys after they finished the ms150, great food at hopdoddy's for out fort experience there.

@saturday had a baby shower in the woodland and didn't get back to Austin till 9pm so no WOD unfortunately. I'm going to try and stick to 3 on 1 off and see how I like it.
@klint, I feel you on not enjoying it, that was my issue with beig so uncomfortable. It really makes it not fun. You still posted a good time but I think you meant mph on your stats. How's your week look prior to the tri?
@leg cramps, it seems like your position on the bike might need to be altered to keep you from cramping, what do you think?
@early/late post: I'm sitting on a plane about to take off for Phoenix then to Cali so hate to crash early and rise way early. Bad timing travel for the race though!

FARRAR

26 mile bike ride then 1.5 mile run

Bike: 9 out of the 26 miles were uninterrupted around white rock lake. The rest were through neiborhoods to get to the lake. I was shooting for 19 min/mile but cruised around 16 or so. Overall, didn't feel good and didn't really enjoy it

Run: first quarter was to katy trail. Timed the mile (7:12 but flat run on katy)and jogged it back to the apt. Right quad started cramping just like it did in Waco. I don't think i am getting good circulation to my legs when I am cycling. It ends me on the runs.

@tri bike, did u walk away with a new bike!!??

WOD: 30 muscle ups for time

@30 all were w/o false grip. I actually tried 3 times and failed on false grip throughout the WOD. I started with 6 straight(by far the most I've done in a row). I got to 25 @ 10:20 but man those last 5 were a beating. Great WOD and I look forward to doing it again.

AJ
AMRAP 9 minutes
1 deadlift (315#)
1 toes to bar
1 burpee
2 deadlift
2 toes to bar
2 burpees
ascending until time goes out

I did 5 full rounds, 6 deadlift and 1 toes to bar. Good gosh that was just stupid. 315#?!? Why couldn't someone talk me out of that. Back is shot for the rest of the day for sure, and probably in to the weekend. Tomorrow is 30 muscle ups for time... should be interesting. I think a great time is sub 10, good time is sub 14. Can you string any together yet? I did 4 today when my kids were begging me to show them a few.. PR!

@Rest/recovery schedule: That is the glory in the programming. One of the best aspects of the gym is that they do the programming, so its catered to every athlete in the gym so that every day isn't absolutely brutal on the body... one day may suck (eva or filthy 50), the next may be light on the legs, the next heavy running. Monday thru Friday, if following a solid box's programming, can be accomplished. That being said, I feel like rule #1 is listen to your body. If I need a rest day because the previous day's workout totally obliterated me, then I rest. More often than not, I reserve Sunday as my rest day if I haven't had one throughout the week, as its common to go 5-6 days in a week. As I'm finding out now though, sleep is beyond pivotal!

@iron man: Even attempting an iron man, or training for one, is something to be proud of. I'd love to have that kind of desire and time, but its just not in the cards! Big props to you guys for doin that.

Have you guys seen the regional competitions for the CrossFit games? We have one guy at our gym who is 4th in the region, and judging by these workouts he has a good shot at moving on.

CrossFit Regional WODs (wfs)

@God story: My prayer for you guys is to continue being Godly men around our wives - in thought, action, vocally, in private, everything. Long story short, guy that we know who was Mr. Right (everyone considered him the standard for girls to date... "if you could date a guy like him, you'd be allright.") has turned into Mr. Wrong. Left his wife, lost his faith, had everything that was great going for him fall apart. Knowing that it happened to him is scary.

FARRAR

Sorry I have been MIA. Life is happening and have not been able to set time aside for a workout. Mel and I worked out Tuesday. Did Kunkels workout from Monday except substituted pullups with dips on a park bench. Forgot the watch at home and did not keep time. Next workout will likely be sat. Have another Bach party tonight and date night with Mel tomorrow night.

@dinner in dallas, we have a wedding in godley sat night this weekend. Let's set a date and put in on the calendar Ridge to grab a bite one evening. I believe next Friday night is good for us. Thoughts?

@saddle, what are ya thinking is contributing to discomfort on the bike. Lack of time on it or do u think ur body has changed?

KUNKEL

REST DAY, but did mow and shoot lots of arrows.
@315, beast mode, that weight makes me want to cry!
@MU's I have done 3 in a row multiple times so I hope I can string 10 of those together tomorrow.
@ironman,let's be clear: there is a giant difference in ironman and what I'm doing here. Ironman is like the NASCAR circuit and I'm like on the kiddy park where we only race electric gocarts!!! I just wanted to reference a great sport (NASCAR, that is)!!!
@regionals I have not but I'll check it out for sure. I had fun when I watched the competition in Austin and would like to go I another one.
@god story: I like the prayer and mr Farrar brought of a great reminder over a year ago, we have to proactively fight for our marriage, and a little fear in our own selves messing things up is ok because we have to trust Jesus for it to be done "right"!
@farrar, you are a professional socialite my friend! There's just not enough Klint to go around! Honesty though you are a great example o missional living, you build relationships and keep them to glorify the gospel, kudos sir.
@saddle, I have no idea what my deal was but I'm going to the tri shop tomorrow to check into it. I better not walk away from that store with a tribike is all I know!

50 air squats

8:03

Half moons: feet in squat position, take 45# plate and make a half moon with the plate - arms extended at the top (and stand), each tap of the plate on the floor = 1

@Kunkel: Beast mode and a half, holy cow. Makes me want to take a week off and see what it does for me if I can put up times like that. I looked up my Griff time from last summer - 12:10. Great job! Try to do 30 MUs for time sometime this week if you can, we are doing that WOD at my gym on Friday.

@Klint: Miss you bud. I think Anne and I may visit Dallas this weekend and visit a restaurant thats been on our radar for a while; may catch up with the Farrars if ya'll are free?

KUNKEL
Tri-time
Got back in the saddle, literally:
Road bike: 13.5 miles, time: 46:31, avg speed: 17.4mph
Run: will have to check distance tomorrow but time: 10:22, 1.4miles

@saddle: I had serious discomfort on the bike. The saddle was a rude awakening for sure, my knees felt hot in a weird way almost like I was putting too much strain on them. My shoulders and hands felt really fatigued and over worked. Overall I just did not feel comfortable or even remotely natural, I'm gonna do some youtubing on "pose" bike form!!!
@run after ride, I did a fast transition and didn't mess around but wow!!! My legs were hurting for the majority of the run. I isn't think I would workout the bike soreness while running at all.
@30 MU's I like the challenge and I will attempt on Friday as well, what's a good time to shoot for? I probably shouldn't have a time other than eternity to try and be under.
@wod/ rest schedule: do y'all try to keep a set schedule of workout days and rest days? I'm thinking about going 3 on 1 off and altering it do that im basically not working out more than 3 days in a row with a strenuous WOD. Thoughts?

God story: I started a little more than a year ago at reading the Bible, start to finish. The goal was to finish in one year, but that isn't quite happening. I'm in 1 Corinthians now. But its so cool how years ago a skinny-video game playing-kid down the hall told me "The OT is the NT concealed, the NT is the OT revealed." And how I am finally starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together. I may never put ALL of them together and may never take in enough knowledge on the scriptures, but really cool how so much OT has NT written all over it, and vice versa.

KUNKEL
Well boys I've missed the WODs and even struggled extending the rest for the entire week outside of the yard work. Took Friday and Saturday to finish flower beds, transPlanting stuff from the front to the back and putting new stuff in the front. I did exert a good deal of energy and back labor but man it felt good to be done and altogether rested. I'm looking forward to getting it tomorrow.
@rest my body did feel good to chill out for an extended period of time and I look forward to the results this week.

@theology question: I think the declared righteous might be translated more like, "you will go through a process to become righteous at the gate". Just a guess though.
@aj: you seem to be quit the cook! What's your favorite thing to create with the egg?
@klint: if it's not prying, any good thoughts while on the family life walk/ talk? You and Mel have great minds that are fun to see at work!

Had gone for a run Thurs with Mel but never started running.... We started talking about life and turned our run into a evening stroll.

AJ

50 double unders

rest 5 min.

3 rounds
amrap bench press @ 165#

Good workout that I made up... think ya'll should try this one sometime. Not sure of my time though, but second round of DUs sucked.

@ Marble Falls: Bluebonnet Cafe- great place if you have time! I drove through and visited, when you walk in there are pics of famous ppl who have visited.

@ Theology: Great question. I think of the scripture in Ephesians saying we are dead in sin, and the renewing of our mind that's mentioned in Romans... I'm thinking made righteous. I don't know much about the exact definition of "declared" or "righteous"... b/c I think that total righteousness won't be received/given until we are risen and in His presence. Could be wrong and you guys may disagree (please do if you can!), but thats my two cents. Great question again.

Filthy Fifty

50 box jumps (24")
50 jumping pull ups
50 KB swings (35#)
50 walking lunges
50 knees to elbows
50 push press
50 back extensions
50 wall ball
50 burpees
50 double unders

21:29. PR by about a minute! K2E and burpees slowed me down. I took several breaks at the back extensions, and somehow managed to go unbroken on the double unders. What's disappointing is doing this so well, only to see the best time on the board in my gym at 16:19. Unreal. Granted, he's also 4th in the region based on the CrossFit Games Open, so I'm ok with that.

@Yard work: Have you fertilized yet? Once we get a break from the rain I will fertilize... I plan on doing it only twice during the spring/summer? Your thoughts on that? I'm still learning so much dealing with the yard stuff... how low to cut it, when to fertilize, weed kill, what type of weed killer to use... all new to me.

@Klint: You're up for the 50. Good luck.

@Cole: Will keep him in my prayers

FARRAR

No workout today or yesterday. Still putting in 12 hour days at the office. Our quarterly is next Thursday so things should chill out after that.

@liked the picture of Colt going Titanic on you!

Praying for Taylor.

KUNKEL

No WOD for me, got home late, fell asleep in the boys room and then ran to church for high school.
@50 nice work, I will be attempting soon.
@yard work: I believe that quarterly fertilizing is sufficient and I believe there are certain ones for certain times of the year. I will be among it up this summer though to at least 1 additional round.
@weed killer, for true broad leaf stuff, spectricide brand works great, they have a concentrate you can mix with a gallon sprayer and cover the entire yard.
@my yard, I got myself in a bind by seeding winter rye 2 winters ago and not this past winter so all those seedlings left over turned to weeds when not repeated and it has covered my entire yard. The only way to get rid of it is to wait for the sun/heat to burn it off, pull it or kill everything with round up. I came dang close to using round up. I did but a "weed popper" from the organic/ hippy plant place and it works really well, as much as I don't want to admit it. Needless to saw I am cutting the grass as short as I possibly can and hoping te sun burns this stuff off quick.

@Truck: LOOOOONG story, but to sum it up: I got a new rack and pinion for free, even though it wasn't under warranty. Its quite a trip how all this panned out, with it potentially being under warranty, one guy saying it was, another saying it wasn't... ugh. Of course, they fixed it, and recommended about $1600 worth of repairs. So I won the battle, but they get the last laugh.

@easter weekend, we had a blast at the "lake"/river Travis. The water is scary low but it happens. I kayaked for quit a while, enough to get a serious burn and had the dog on with me for the majority of it. Pretty funny, he got all titanic on me and was standing tall off the nose and it only later a few beats before he went right into the deep part of the lake. Shoulders were feeling it from the paddling though.
@yesterday I was only able to do yard work for about 90 minutes, I've got a weed Problem that is driving me nuts!
@rest of the week, I'm gonna take it easy. My sinuses hurt, my body hurts from the sun and trying to keep up with you two. Just feel like I need to slow a bit before a hard push for this tri at the end o the month.

@filthy fifty, I've never tried it but I will maybe at the end of the week or next, looks dirty.

@tsylor cole: be praying for him he had back surgery yesterday as is hopin to have fixed all this pain he's been having and I'm praying that he can take advantage of this time of being still to better know God and the love our father has for him.

Overtime: 90 second L-sit from rings (20-20-25-14-11)

Finally starting to break in the inov8s - f-lite 195s. They are SO narrow, but I'm adjusting. Worked out with Matt Chandler today. Great guy.

KUNKEL

Ran down to the gym and for some reason all doors were locked with the key fobs not working so had to just keep running, ran for 25 minutes and not sure how far.

@snatches nice work
@chandler, so I guess we come to name dropping huh? Just playing, that's awesome you got to sweat alongside him, #jealous

@Twisted root: All kinds of jealous. I need to go back soon; such a great place! Paleo-friendly food too; but who am I kidding, I would get a bun, fried something, and a shake.

@shoulder delay: I'm still sore from 45 HSPUs. I did ring dips and ring push ups, but not as taxing on the shoulders as the HSPUs. The run wasn't so bad, probably b/c I'm just not that good at it, but I think my first round of 21 took an entire Foo Fighters song to complete

Worked until 7 tonight and had to squeeze this workout in. Looks like it will be another tough week to workout.

@Tough Mudder, crazy run with crazy obstacles!  Was a lot of fun and a good test of endurance trying to keep up with the once-college athletes we were running with.

@I posted a couple times last week and noticed none of the posts made it.  Not sure why.  But dont worry, I check this site everyday to see what you mongrels are up to.

@Roth, im not tracking why your tax bracket should keep you from opening a Roth account.  Its true you cant contribute to a Roth if your dual income is greater than 170K but either way, tax free income when you retire is a big win when you are trying to budget for retirement.

And great job on the PR!!

@been running and gunning without signal!
@toughmudder!!! Man, YouTube some videos and search 2012 Dallas tough mudder and check out the ones with shock therapy!!! Still makes me convulse thinking about it. Really hard section was the rolling hills at about mile 11 and the electrical wires are no joke and they do provide a significant ZAP! Fun event, fun people, always good Camaraderie!!! Klint was extra tough, he had to run the whole thing while holding up his shorts literally the whole way so he wouldn't create a bunch of divorces when all the women saw what he was working with!!!

@roth, we have invested in this and I agree Klint, it's nice to know you will have some tax free money no matter what happens with our taxes moving forward. Not sure why it would be a bad investment unless you were just flat out banking already or in the near future.
@aj, shoulder delay, nice work, suck about the stopwatch. How did the shoulders feel while running?
@us in Austin, yessir we are in Austin but my folks are in weatherford and every now and then I'm in fort worth for work.

@last Friday's WOD, I did 25 muscle ups not for time and I really found a better form for me and it made a huge difference. Each time I went for one I got at least 3 so that's was a big improvement.

@4-2, I pulled weeds as I have a major weed issue in the entire yard, not fun.

Did Kunkel's workout from 3/15/2012

*Shoulder Delay*

21 HSPUs, ring dips, ring push ups
mile run
15 HSPUs, ring dips, ring push ups
mile run
9 HSPUs, ring dips, ring push ups
mile run

I finished the round of 9 at 35:24, and brought my stopwatch with me outside and placed it where the actual mile run starting/finish line is. (From gym to starting/finish line of 1/4 mile is about 100m downhill). I brought it with me so that when I was finished I can get an accurate timing of my time. I finish my 4th lap to complete the mile and WOD, and the stop watch is gone. Some punk stole it. So, if I had to guess, I'd say my time in was like 44-45ish? But a fun workout nonetheless. Last mile was tough when my previous meal a mere 2 hours prior was my leftover smoked pork :)
